It has been around since Windows 7 in one way or another.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Error_0x80070057_usually_occurs_when\"><\/span>Error 0x80070057 usually occurs when:<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>You are trying to back up your files, and there is corruption.<\/li>\n<li>You are trying to install a <strong>Windows operating system,<\/strong> and the System Reserved <strong>Partition is corrupt<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Corrupt policy or registry entries are interfering with the Windows Update process.<\/li>\n<li>Some problems were installing the updates, and the system will try again later.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Causes_of_error_code_0x80070057\"><\/span>Causes of error code 0x80070057<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>If you encounter the error code 0x80070057, it means that there was a problem with your storage device, be it a hard drive or an SSD. Attempting to install or copy data to any part of that partition may cause error 0x80070057, as the disk is having difficulty writing information to it.<\/p>\n<p>We have also heard of more innocuous cases of the error code 0x80070057, such as when creating a new profile in MS Outlook. Other apps seem to be more susceptible to this error than others. Still, in theory, nothing is stopping any app from activating it if it is running out of storage or if there is a <strong>problem with the underlying hardware<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"How_to_fix_error_code_0x80070057\"><\/span>How to fix error code 0x80070057<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>The <strong>exact cause of the error code 0x80070057 is not always clear<\/strong>, but there are several possible solutions you can try. These are listed from the easiest to the most intensive and time-consuming, so even if the former seems a little basic or you don&#8217;t think they work, we would recommend working on them step by step. If one of the first solutions is successful, you can save yourself a lot of time.<\/p>\n<p>After trying each of these fixes, try to perform the original task where the error first appeared to you. If it does not appear again, success! You have fixed the problem. If it reappears, it continues with the list of corrections.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Confirm that the date and time are correct:<\/strong>\u00a0It may sound silly, but many issues can be <strong>caused by your system&#8217;s date and time not syncing properly<\/strong> with the real world, and error code 0x80070057 is one of them. You can <strong>check your date and time in Windows 7, 8.1 and 10<\/strong> by selecting the time or date in the lower right corner. Check it with a watch you have, or if you get stuck, use your favourite search engine to search for &#8220;What time is it.&#8221; If it turns out to be out of sync, find &#8220;Change the time&#8221; in the Windows search bar, select the corresponding result and make the necessary changes to correct your date or time setting.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Run Chkdsk:<\/strong>\u00a0If the underlying storage hardware you&#8217;re running has some corrupted data, a corrupted partition, or faulty hardware, the Windows Check Disk or Chkdsk tool can help you find and fix it.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Free up space in your unit:<\/strong>\u00a0Your drive may be full, and you need to free up some space on your hard drive. You can check the capacity of its main unit by going to My Computer or My Computer, depending on the version of Windows.<br \/>\nFind the <strong>C: drive<\/strong>, which is usually your main boot drive. If it shows little free space, you will need to delete some things from the unit to make space. Consider emptying the download folder, the recycle bin, and the temporary folders.<br \/>\nTools like <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.wikitechupdates.com\/best-ccleaner-alternatives-for-pc-and-mobile\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">CCleaner<\/a><\/strong> can be of great help in this regard. This can cause you to lose your settings, installed apps, and more, so be prepared for that eventuality if you go ahead with this solution.<br \/>\n<strong>Before attempting this step, be sure to back up all important information on your disk<\/strong>, as a system restore may lose it if you select a date too far away.<\/li>\n<li><strong>System Restore:<\/strong> If System Restore does not, you may have to restart your computer with the factory options. Windows has some very useful built-in tools for it. Just follow the steps for your particular version of Windows and the system should work again at this time.<br \/>\n<strong>Make sure to back up everything important<\/strong> to you before starting a system reset, as you can lose everything if you&#8217;re not careful.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Try clean formatting with a new partition:<\/strong> If a system reset fails, the only other option available with your existing drive is to <strong>delete the partitions and perform a clean reset<\/strong>, and then reinstall Windows.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Buy a new unit:<\/strong> If all else fails, you can always buy a new unit. Using an SSD as a boot drive is recommended for best performance, but any hard drive will do a good job.
